The resume writing technique inspired by… salmon
Last week, I posted on Linkedin about how my firm is AGGRESSIVELY hiring on my LInkedIn profile. One of the people who reached out right away sent me a resume that was 11 pages!!
In reality, that’s an instant turn-off (and I think that’s true for just about anyone working in this space) but I tried to see if there was anything there we could work with before responding.
I got the sense that it might be worthwhile to try to move him forward based on his background so I asked him if he had a shorter version more tailored for the job he wanted me to refer him for. He said he’d send it over the weekend.
It’s now Thursday morning, nearly a week later, and guess what… crickets.
My spidey senses are telling me is it would take him more time than he thought to trim down what he had. It reminds me of a Mark Twain quote, “I didn’t have time to write a short letter so I wrote a long one instead.”
That’s why I pulled together what I like to call my “Salmon Run” technique for faster resume writing. It’s my technique to help you make sure if the dream opportunity you didn’t even know you were looking for comes knocking, you’ll always be ready to answer.
The reason for the name? Because I’ve never seen anyone teach it — and you might even say it goes against the grain, but it’s incredibly effective.
