A job searcher's worst enemy

I was on Reddit the other day in r/resumes and saw a poster comment that their biggest struggle was coming up with something original.

And this person couldn’t have been more wrong. Here’s why…

Did you know that there are certain advertising headlines written in the 1920s and 30s that have been swiped, mimicked, and adapted to current day marketing?

Sure, some of the language we use has changed over that time but human psychology — the core of any type of persuasion — remains the same.

And if something has been proven to work, you should take advantage of it until doesn’t.

It’s true in marketing with headlines…

It’s true in movie plots…

It’s true in consulting with deliverables and proposals…

It’s true when writing resumes...

Let’s take this last example a little further. Attention effective grabbing ≠ original. And sometimes you can grab attention without achieving your ultimate result (getting the job interview).

One of the commonly overlooked truths about marketing anything, including yourself in a job search, is that creativity and originality reign supreme…

… but think about this…

When someone leaves a job on great terms, and the hiring manager creates a new requisition to fill the position, what do you think they’re looking for?

It’s not some outside of the box circus act they haven’t seen before. They want someone who can get results similar to or better than the person they already had.

The key to all of this is to understand how to take something you know works and apply it to your target reader.

If you want the only step-by-step plan showing you how to do that… created by someone who’s been where you are and is sitting where you want to go, then this link is for you.
