I was reading an email from Ramit Sethi this morning and he shared something from an interview that I HAD to share.[Read more…]
Hey friend –
I was on Reddit the other day in r/resumes and saw a poster comment that their biggest struggle was coming up with something original.
And this person couldn’t have been more wrong. Here’s why…[Read more…]
In the movie Black Panther, there’s a foundational moment when the character Zuri explains why he left a child behind to fend for himself in inner city Oakland — after watching the king kill the child’s father.
And to add to that, the man the king killed was his brother…
… and that abandoned child grows up to be the ruthless yet relatable villain known as Killmonger.
The best explanation Zuri could come up with is “we had to maintain the lie.”
He told himself that every day until it ultimately caught up with him and he met his end at the hands of Killmonger.
Now why on earth am I talking to you about a comic book movie?![Read more…]
I came across this Harvard Business Review article on Linkedin a few days ago talking about the differences between how men and women search for jobs.
Apparently, men apply for jobs when they think they’re 60% confident and women don’t apply unless they meet 100% of the requirements.
Why do you think that is?[Read more…]
Here’s something I that caught my eye recently in the Wall St Journal. MBA applications are down fire the fifth straight year. You know why?
The journal didn’t say all of this but if you take a close look you’ll see you can break down the answer into three parts. Part of it is due to higher hurdles in the immigration / visa process.[Read more…]
So I was at one of my favorite local restaurants a couple of days ago and I noticed something different.

That’s advice I got during a sparring session with one of the black belt instructors at my Tae Kwon Do school.
Since I’m an adult and also… not small… I usually end up paired with an instructor instead of another student for sparring. You learn more but you pay for it with your pride… [Read more…]
I was walking down the street in San Francisco the other day when someone stuck this ad in front of my face.
I’m not even sure why I grabbed but I did, and only glanced at it before stuffing it into my pocket. I kept walking back to the office and then I took a closer look at it.
A couple of things jumped out, mainly being I wasn’t sure what they did. Is it a restaurant or is it food delivery or some other new thing someone cooked up?
Funny enough, when I went to get lunch later I saw the same MealPal logo in the restaurant and that’s what made me even come back to this ad to give it another thought.
Here’s why I bring this up. If you’re running your own business you can take this lesson and apply to your own marketing. [Read more…]
There’s an internet meme floating around that makes me laugh every time I see it. It’s not quite true for me but I know SO many people that this describes perfectly.
If what I regularly see out in the wild, you’re probably making a major mistake on your resume but before I tell you what it is, I want to ask you a question.
