Measuring the Wrong Thing in Your Career (and Probably Other Places Too)

Or tunnel vision.

Take your pick — the problem is the same.

Let me know if this sounds like you or anyone you’ve heard:

“But I worked really hard on this” (after it got shredded)

“I sent out over 100 applications and got no call backs”

And then there’s this one I got last week from a jobseeker who is clearly anxious about trying to build a network on LinkedinThe majority of the time, content creators advocate network, be of value, and help others, but what I found is 99.2% of the US audiences don’t act. and that’s from a 300 outreach experiment.

Activity ≠ productivity!

And it certainly doesn’t equal quality.

No matter what you’re doing, if you can do higher quality even if it means a lower volume of output, you’ll be in better shape.

Resumes

Client work

Internal job applications

DIY hobby projects

It literally applies everywhere.

Try it and thank me later.
