The little video game that could is putting on a masterclass in marketing yourself by picking a fight with two juggernauts

I don’t know if you’ve seen what’s going on today but Fortnite has just waged war against Apple AND Google 🤯

And I’m here for it.

The funniest part about this for me is I was alerted by my son before I even got the Apple News notifications that Fortnite had been booted from the app store.

You can read more about it but the short of it seems to be they decided to bypass the digital overlords on in-app purchases, which is a YUGE revenue source.

But this was special…

Fortnite seems to have baited the Silicon Valley giants into banning them from their platforms by knowing violating the terms of service… and then had a #FreeFortnite campaign on deck positioning themselves as for the people (by reducing the prices of in-app purchases) and producing some cool videos in the game and on their website to stir up the masses.

I don’t know what their end goal is but this feels like it could be one of the most genius marketing moves of all time. What if this whole thing was geared to get more eyes on them (as if there weren’t enough already) and let people know they’re releasing some new way to go directly to their site to get the same great experience gamers have always had but for fewer dollars?! 🔥

The first thing in marketing is to get attention. But what you do after that is where the money is made. I’m very curious to see how this plays out.

Speaking of making money… I told someone today that it’d cost $1,900 if she wanted me to write her resume for her. I think I spooked her a little bit based on her response…

The good news is there’s another way to get the same result at a fraction of the price, like $1 today.
