DON”T ANNOY YOUR CUSTOMERS!
Sounds easy, right?
Unfortunately, this sign just reminded me how much I hate stupid people. You probably think I’m overreacting and maybe I am, but let me ask you this…what you would expect if you saw this sign and walked inside to see the cashier?
Now let me tell you what actually happened. I pull into this Shell station with my wife and two kids to fill up for the week. All the pumps are occupied except for one so I pull into it and just my luck, there’s this sign on the front of the pump. I went inside and asked the cashier to fill up on pump 2 and hand him my credit card. He responds with, “You have to pay with credit card outside. Just use another pump.”
Needless to say I got a wee bit annoyed so I asked the guy why he has a sign instructing customers to come inside when he just tells them to go back outside. Being the consultant that I am, I suggest the sign could have (and should have) just as easily said “out of order” or “please use a different pump.” I mistakenly had assumed the store owner cared about customer service. Not only did he not answer my question but he didn’t even think thank me for the helpful suggestion. How rude…
What do you think? Is this worth not going back there again for the poor customer service or am I just being a stickler for process improvement? Let me know in the comments!
