What Elon Musk should’ve learned from how Thanos approached handling his business

I saw this quote from Elon Musk the other day where he said CEOs need to spend less time on finance and less time looking at PowerPoint slides.

All that sounds good for the people who are willing to work 80 hours on their company so they don’t have to work 40 hours on someone else’s and all that… but there’s one thing The Great Flamethrower failed to mention…

Spending less time on finance and understanding cash flows and margins is the reason a lot of people with great products go out of business 🤷🏾‍♂️

Or maybe he inadvertently leaves out an important detail on how he has someone he really trusts handling that aspect.

Either way, balance is key. (That’s where the greatest villain of all time was onto something.)

And someone has to mind the cash.

So while the spirit of the point Mr. Moonshot is trying to may be right, I’m sure there are a bunch of Musk bots who are going to take these words literally.

After this note, I’m hoping at least you won’t be one of them.

p.s. whenever you’re ready, here are three ways I can help:

  1. Breakthrough Resume Writing is the only training course to my knowledge where you’re going to have access to an active practitioner who does the work and plays a key role in resume reviews and hiring. This course will turn your resume into an absolute interview magnet.
  2. How to get Good in Excel…FAST teaches you how to use Excel efficiently, whether you’re a new user or want to refresh your skills as an experienced user. The reality is that while all kinds of technologies are coming out, the spreadsheet is here to stay for the foreseeable future, so it pays to know your way around one.
  3. If you want to work with me 1-on-1 in a career coaching, resume writing, or business consulting capacity, email me (eric at ericpbutts.com) with some more specifics on what you’re looking for and I’ll get in touch.
